Transifex
=========

Transifex is a web system that facilitates the process of submitting
translations in various source control management systems (VCSs).

Goals
-----

 * Provide an interface for translators to submit translations to multiple
   projects, regardless of the type of the underlying VCS

 * Reduce the overhead a project maintainer usually undertakes to administrate
   accounts for translators

 * Help translators do more by eliminating the need to subscribe to each VCS and
   learn its commands and tricks

 * Encourage collaboration between developers and maintainers and thus, increase
   the language coverage of the participant projects

Handling the own Transifex translation
-------------

  * Use the i18n.py script to extract messages and to compile and merge 
    POT/PO files. The i18n.py is able to extract the modules descriptions and 
    summaries stored in the database. Use the following command for more 
    information.

    $ ./i18n.py --help


Usecases
--------

  * Alan is a person contributing translations to Fedora. He uses Fedora and
    finds a typo in yum's translation to russian. He wants to correct it easily
    and send it to yum so that when he updates the system, or when he uses his
    laptop, he won't see the typo again.

  * Bob is the language maintainer for Portuguese of a big FOSS project. He
    often receives bug reports from Fedora translators about corrections of his
    translations or new ones, and he has to manually commit each one of them.
    He'd like the people to directly submit them and receive an email for each
    commit just to check them and make sure they are OK.  

  * Mike is the developer of smolt. He doesn't use Fedora's CVS for development,
    so whenever a new translation is needed to be added, or a correction to one
    is made, he spends some time committing it. He doesn't like that, nor the
    fact that he is adding stuff he doesn't know if they are PG-rated. He'd like
    the language maintainer from Fedora to handle this.
